Overlooking the Red Sea, Al-Laith derives its name from Wadi Al-Laith, at whose mouth it lies. Historically, it served as a trade port for large ships arriving from distant continents, Yemen, and the African coasts. The governorate enjoys rich tourism resources and is famous for its abundant marine life inhabiting coral reef ecosystems.
